Preconception

Preconception

Prenato offers several services that can support and guide you through the preparatory stages of preconception. Please note that we are not a fertility clinic and that we do not offer assisted reproductive services such as in vitro fertilization (IVF) and insemination, nor do we offer a complete fertility assessment.

Services offered at Prenato:

Preconception meeting (90min) – $150

Do you want to get pregnant, but would like to prepare yourself more with the upcoming steps in preparation for conception?
Do you have questions about your menstrual cycle, your fertility or an anatomical particularity?

These meetings with one of our nurses will allow you to better understand all the factors that can have an impact on your fertility so that we can support you on this journey. We are aware that having difficulty conceiving can change a person’s perception of themselves, affect their self-esteem and change their personal relationships, including with their partner. We offer an empathetic listening ear to help in reassuring you and making this experience as positive as possible.

Following this meeting and our assessment, we will be able to direct you, if indicated, to the appropriate professional follow-up to ensure that your situation is taken care of.

Ultrasound assessment of ovarian reserve (also called basic ultrasound or follicular count) – $160

The evaluation of ovarian reserve helps to estimate the response to treatment to improve fertility. Generally, this reserve decreases with age, significantly from the mid-thirties and more rapidly during the forties. Age alone is not the only indicator, however, and it varies from one woman to another. This ultrasound assesses the quantity and quality of oocytes in the ovaries using an endovaginal probe to obtain more precise images of the ovaries and follicles, as well as the shape of the uterus.

When: Between days 2 and 5 of your menstrual cycle (i.e. during your period). This ultrasound does not have to be repeated every cycle.

Why: To better understand the chances of ovulation later in the cycle.

For whom: or women who wish to evaluate their fertility to make the decision to preserve their eggs or to begin a process in a fertility clinic.

Attention: This ultrasound must be combined with certain blood samples to allow a complete assessment of the ovarian reserve (basal levels of FSH, LH, ESTRADIOL, Inhibin B and AMH (anti-Müllerian hormone))

*A prescription is required for this service*

Ultrasound for follicular monitoring– $160

This ultrasound is carried out using the same methods as the ultrasound of the ovarian reserve assessment.

When: Before ovulation (depending on the menstrual cycle), generally around the 10th day for a standard 28-day cycle, then repeated every two days. Follicular monitoring for subsequent cycles will be adjusted based on the result of the first cycle.

Why: To monitor the evolution of the predominant follicles and assess their quality, then closely monitor the evolution of these predominant follicles and identify their maturity to produce ovulation.

For whom: For women who are already in the fertility process and who need to adjust their treatment.

The report from this ultrasound will be sent to your physician in order to determine your follow-up and to adjust your fertility treatment for future cycles.

Services offered at Genolife:

In partnership with Prenato, Genolife offers a telehealth genetic counselling service that can meet your needs in the area of preconception and fertility. In addition to assessing the genetic risks for your future children based on your medical and family history, private genetic testing is also available to reduce these risks.

In particular, the expanded carrier screening test allows you to find out if you are at risk of passing on a severe genetic condition to your future children by analyzing more than 500 genes that you could carry without knowing it.

When: Ideally before pregnancy but can also be done once you are pregnant.

Why: Knowing your status as a carrier of a genetic condition allows you to improve reproductive planning and make informed choices for your future family.

For whom: All couples who wish to find out about their genetic risks, individuals in the process of insemination or IVF with a sperm or egg donor, individuals adopted or with broken family ties who are unaware of their history, couples with a consanguineous relationship, individuals belonging to populations at specific risk of carrying genetic conditions, etc.
