Breastfeeding is a such a great adventure, sprinkled with beautiful tender moments, challenges, and for some, moments of questioning.
The support of your loved ones is very important and makes a big difference from the very first beginning of breastfeeding.
Some may want to add an external resource to their support circle. It is good to know that there is a wide variety of help and support you can receive. This help can be beneficial for better preparation for breastfeeding during pregnancy, for initiating breastfeeding, during moments of crisis or during weaning.
Among others, you can find :
– Breastfeeding mentors: These are mothers who have breastfed and have chosen to volunteer to support other mothers. They usually benefit from basic breastfeeding training.
– La Leche League Leaders: These are also mothers who have breastfed and are part of this globally recognized organization. They have personal experiences as well as comprehensive training to better support and preserve your breastfeeding.
– Lactation consultants: Healthcare professionals who possess knowledge and skills validated by accreditation. They can help when challenges arise. Most of the time, they work in hospital, community resources and sometimes at home.
– CLSC nurses: Healthcare professionals who will visit you at home after your delivery. They have theoretical knowledge as well as professional expertise in breastfeeding, without necessarily having personal experience.
