Is it possible to know your baby’s sex at 10 weeks of pregnancy?
18 June 2019
During pregnancy, many medical appointments will be suggested by your doctor. In addition to regular follow-ups, screening tests and ultrasounds will be offered. From a medical standpoint, these tests will allow health professionals to address certain concerns about your pregnancy or to advise you on a worrying health issue. Although health is paramount, it is not uncommon for parents to ask after an ultrasound: “is it a boy or girl?”
Just a few years ago, the ultrasound was the only procedure available to pregnant women to find out the sex of the child they were carrying. Thus, the majority of expectant mothers waited until halfway through their pregnancy to have an ultrasound scan that would confirm the sex of the baby. The wait often seemed endless for parents. And at that time, it was not uncommon for the baby to position himself in such a way that it was impossible to determine his sex. The future parents then left disappointed, not knowing. To the joy of new parents, some prenatal clinics have begun to make predictions based on what is called the sexual bud during the 12-week nuchal translucency ultrasound. Sometimes incorrect predictions were announced in advance to parents who were excited about painting a room or starting their shopping, only to realize later during pregnancy that the sex was ultimately not the one that was announced.
